Lunar Base Alpha: Initial Research Logs

Compiled by: Commander Elias Koenig, Lunar Research Initiative

Excerpt from Log Entry—Day 47

The sun remains low on the horizon, casting long shadows over Shackleton Crater. The thermal differentials are more extreme than predicted, and the regolith near the base perimeter has started to shift in unexpected ways. We've marked the most unstable sections for additional reinforcement.

Dr. Vasquez reports promising readings from the ice core samples. If confirmed, we may have access to stable subsurface water reserves, which would be a game-changer for sustained lunar habitation. Processing systems are still in early stages, but initial electrolysis tests suggest we can extract usable oxygen.

Morale remains high despite the challenges. Patel has started an evening tradition of reading Earth poetry aloud. Tonight's selection: Pale Blue Dotby Carl Sagan. It is humbling to stand here, under an unfiltered sky, and think of home as a speck in the void.

We remain. We endure. We learn.
